Post-contest things have been... interesting. DA and Tumblr both seemed hell-bent on devouring any messages I sent out, then DA went down completely. I've been mailing out prizes this week, but some slight defects in pendants means I have to redo a bunch so they'll be shipped out later than expected. I also have to reroll a few giveaway winners who apparently aren't checking their mail. I'm not in the best of health right now so I've been responding to people slowly and all the holdups have been really draining and discouraging. (I just want it all to be over, haha.) But, it's coming along and hopefully everyone should get their prizes soon!
Anyway, this journal is dedicated to a few really cool entries that weren't picked as winners but were so awesome/creative that I couldn't let them go without giving them a slice of the limelight.

Theawesomediea was the only entrant to submit a VIDEO entry. Click the image above to watch it! It's a fictional commercial put out by the Hoenn Pokemon Center and it's amazingly put together! Really slick animation, amazing attention to detail, beautiful but not overpowering special effects... just super cool. You can see the images used in it here.

Avital submitted a cosplay, complete with hand-crocheted starter Pokemon! I don't know how many of you crochet, but that takes serious dedication. If you like collecting crocheted dolls, she's even got them for sale right now! Avital also submitted an awesome Lavaridge Town entry that you should check out. She's skilled at cosplay, crochet, AND drawing!

This entry is just plain technically stunning. It's a depiction of cave paintings in Granite Cave and is uunbelievablywell drawn. It was also a submission for the OR/AS Countdown, which if you haven't checked out is pretty amazing.

This entry stood out to me because it was one of the BEST put together entries in terms of layout and composition. Everything flows together and looks incredibly professional from a graphic design standpoint. It's a gorgeous example of making something incredibly original using only official art and stock photos/brushes.

Speaking of composition, Nyubai's entry is top notch. I love the attention to detail (It even has a bar code!) and the beautiful fonts and color choices. I could definitely see this on a supermarket shelf in Hoenn!
Once again, huge thanks to everyone who entered this contest. Your submissions were brilliant and it was such a pleasure to see everyone getting excited and creative about OR/AS.

New year goals...
- Communicate better! With clients, with friends, with family.
- Related to above, do more random nice things for people both online and offline.
- Get better at hitting my work goals every weekday just like an office job. No more scrambling to catch up on weekends, those days are for Alterity and, you know, relaxing like a normal human being.
- Keep up the good habits I've already learned!
What are everyone's goals for 2020?
End-of-decade art thoughts
There's a lot of "2009 vs 2019 art!" stuff floating around right now that's probably very demotivating to a lot of people. Respect to those who have made huge strides this decade, but if you are one of the many who haven't... please remember to be kind to yourself. Not everyone goes from kindergarten scribbles to the Mona Lisa in 10 years. You can't sum up your worthiness with a single before and after picture. Your journey is your own. You don't need to apologize or punish yourself for the way you've taken it.
My own creative ability has barely evolved at all in 10 years. I've basically been at an artistic standstill since 2013. I've grieved
FanX 2019!
I forgot I can't do "Status Updates" without the core subscription, whoops... at least I don't think I can (EDIT: I can lol. Thanks for educating me)
Anyway if anyone's in the area I'm going to be at FanX this weekend! Artist Alley booth "WH6," look for the big WITTY CRITTERS sign. I'm nervous and excited! And also can't wait to post up all the new stuff I drew for the convention. It seems like I haven't been drawing much but I have, just behind the scenes.
Things in the works + Alterity notice
2019 has brought a bunch of plates to spin! In order of stuff that's happening:
Next month I'll be preparing some stuff for Utah’s FanX convention in April. No news on the booth location yet but you'll hear about it when I do.
I now have a Twitch account and may or may not be brave enough to stream my drawing process live. I’ll let people know with status updates when this happens.
Working on migrating my store so people don’t have to pay exorbitant Storenvy fees on every purchase and I don’t have to pay exorbitant monthly fees for simple things like a real domain name. I’m a web dev; I don’t need to put u
